THE CHURCH STREET SURGERY

We Are A Teaching Surgery

Church Street Surgery has been participitating in undergraduate medical education for many years. We are recognised by the University as one of their training practices. We have a close relationship with Birmingham University Medical School and have taken students in their final year before qualification for over twenty years. Since 2001 we have been taking students in their first two years of Medical School. This is an innovation pioneered by Birmingham and has proven very popular. Students have consistently reported back that this is the part of the course they enjoy the most. They particularly appreciate the early patient contact.

Students sit in on consultations, interview patients with specific conditions and even do home visits. We make every effort to obtain patient's consent and to inform them of the students presence, therefore giving the chance to opt out. However, we appreciate that many would prefer to consult alone and this will always be accommodated. The University as well as ourselves take confidentiality very seriously. The students are required to sign an agreement subscribing to this.

This has all been made possible and has been enhanced by the co-operation of our patients. We would like to thank all those who have helped and who volunteer themselves regularly. Anyone who would welcome any offers of help. Details concerning this are always available at reception.

This all helps the Wyre Forest Area maintain a high profile academically and hopefully encourages doctors to work in the area in the years ahead.
