The Church Street Counselling service
The Counselling Service for this practice is a resource for adult patients who may be experiencing distress or difficulties in their personal or everyday lives. This resource is available, should their GP feel it appropriate and referrals are made or authorised by the GP's of the practice.
The Counselling Service is part of the Clinical Psychology Service for the Wyre Forest district. It offers short term 'packages' of counselling and is intended as a brief intervention. The duration of a 'package' of counselling would be between four and eight sessions. the patient with more complex needs would not be appropriate for this service, due to the short-term nature of the resource. Referrals requiring longer and more in-depth work may be more suited as a referral to the Clinical Psychology Department.
The Counselling Service is confidential and the Counsellor will adhere to a code of practice set out by the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy. Appropriate theoretical models will govern as a backdrop to the process facilitated by the Counsellor. The Counsellor will be line managed by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and will attend regular professional supervision of practice.
The Counsellor will endeavour to create a secure and trustworthy environment and this is intended to enable a successful and meaningful process for the individual referred for this service.
